CAT: GSC45007

LABEL: Galaxy Sound Company

If edits are your game then the Galaxy Sound Company is certainly the name. Along other labels like Mukatisuku, these dudes know how to repackage lost and rare soul 45s, and this new two-headed funk bullet from Thelonious Gillespie is just painfully on target with more soulful goodness.

Beatheads take note of the heavy drums on the A-Side edit of Frankie Seay & The Soul Riders. The track (originally released as one of the two group's singles in 1969) is a moody, dusty percussion bomb brimming with breaks and a grainy guitar accompanied by fine brass waves. The drummer is goin' hard on that kit & Black Cash & Theo extend the funk outta that bad mutha.

On the flip, Lyn Christopher's amazing rare groove jam "Take Me With You" (taken from her 1973 self-titled LP) gets a similar extension, as BC&T has pruned and reshaped this edit into a glorious soul ballad with a hard edge, and a driving rhythm led by gliding electronic guitars and an inimitable bassline. That beat was sampled by the likes of LL Cool J, 50 Cent and Mobb Deep. The original soul number holds it down on its own.
