What up doe? FAV45s is here. Let's get to it...
So, what the Hell is "FAV45"? Pretty straight forward, it's simply favorite 45s. This site and our IG are dedicated to showcasing our favorite sure-shot 45s, indie record labels, indie record stores, DJs and producers who share our obsession with the 7".
"FAV45s" is also the name of a special night that was born in Brooklyn back in the early 1990s. Way before vinyl was "back in vogue" or hip again, we were digging deep crates, performing live edits of our favorite breaks. For over a decade we had a residency at Bar Sputnik in Bed Sty, as well as special nights at now-gone spots like the Avenue B Social Club, Spiral, pop-up parties in DUMBO (pre gentrification) and one crazy night at Limelight that for legal reasons I can't get into). Those nights were all vinyl 45s all night long. Some nights were genre-specific, but mostly it was about showing off what rare records you had, or "oh you got that record, I got this one", or "oh I got the OG" etc. We've brought it back to life in the Boston area at a couple of spots. I am continuing its residency at State Park in Cambridge. So follow us to stay tuned on upcoming events so you can make sure to get down and shake a tail feather with us.
But I digress, this post is meant to kick off our blog series by showcasing one of my FAV labels who have been consistently releasing 45 heaters -- GALAXY SOUND COMPANY. GSC is run by one of my fav humans on the planet and co-consipirtor Brian Gillespie aka Thelonious Beats, aka Black Cash & Theo.
If ya know, ya know -- but if not, you need to. If you love 45s, if you love crate digging, you will love GSC. The crew is dedicated to fueling DJs with sure shot edits to get butts moving, and to give us access to hard to find wax while not devaluing the original source material.
If anything it pays homage, with much respect and love. I abhor the Discogs-haters or label this as bootlegging. It is not. So tune out that bullshit. The GSC do this with love and respect. It is not a money making venture. These 45s are carefully edited and crafted. The product is top notch. I highly recommend following GSC and to ensure you can cop one of their always limited-run releases (and sometimes BG will offer up a very limited run of their test pressings, if you're lucky).
So the next few posts will showcase each of GSC's near 40 45 releases. I got 'em all, so don't hate but celebrate.
